I have 5 independent receptacle breakers (two in bathrooms and 3 in kitchen -each with two additional receptacles in the circuit) that continually trip. These trip without a load and seem to all trip at the same time - when one is found tripped, the others are tripped also. Can a power surge cause this even if the 5 breakers in the breaker box are not tripped?

Solution
Since those are kitchen and bathroom, I would believe you have a faulty GFI (ground fault interrupter). The GFI might be built-into the breaker or part of the outlet nearest the breaker box.
