Hi to all,

I have a Lenovo Y-700-15ISK gaming laptop,which has a 1 TB 5400 rpm WD Blue HDD and a 120 GB Samsung SSD.

These days the temps of the both the HDD and the SSD,reach at least 41 degrees Celsius while idle, and 51 degrees at max while under load!
And these 51 degrees Celsius last for a while!

Please tell me if these temps are dangerous(51 degrees Celsius!!!) or normal, for the both of my storage devices?

How can I lower these temps if it is possible?

And please tell me what does the cooling of the HDD and SSD in a laptop, and could it be obstructed by dust etc.?

Thanks to all in advance!
Best regards!

Solution
for the hard disk 51 is somewhat dangerous, decreases the lifespan of the hard disk, less years to live

from where do you get those readings?

hard disk and ssd on a laptop doesn't have any form of ventilation basically, they get hot and remain hot, only gpu and cpu on a laptop have fans or heatsink

try to see if there is dust, fluf, anything obstructing the fans and heatsink on the laptop, you might need to open it but if it is still under warranty, you might get in trouble if you open it

other than that, if you want to keep the entire body of the laptop cool, buy something like this for your gaming laptop...

it blows cold air to the bottom of the laptop, doesn't do much but might help abit

it however puts the laptop in a uncomfortable position to work with the keyboard so you will need keyboard and mouse, but the screen will be taller, better for you

Dear atljsf,thank you for replying!
Could the room temperatures have an impact on the SSD and HDD temps? These days the weather was too hot in my city 40 degrees Celsius! The room temperature around 33-34 degrees Celsius!

What do you think?
