So I'm getting a new motherboard processor and ram I will be going from an Asus pro gaming ddr3 mobo to a newer Asus rgb ddr4 mobo I've only changed my graphics card before but do I need to do anything all of my data is on an ssd so do I just connect/screw it all in an I'm good to go? If it matters I'm still sticking with intel and just from the i7-4790k to i7-7700k the upgrade is really just to help a friend out plus get my rgb done for cheaper.

Wait so let me get this straight. You are upgrading from a 4790k to a 7700k and are wondering if you can still use the same boot ssd.

Here is something I found - looks like you might be out of luck if you are also using a new motherboard.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.howtogeek.com/239815/why-cant-you-move-a-windows-installation-to-another-computer/amp/

But, you can get a cheap external hdd, back up all of your files, and do a clean install of windows by clearing all of your storage devices and reinstalling.

Here is a 1tb external hard drive but they sell ones with less storage if you don't have a terabyte of data on your pic.

Hope this helps.

Thank you and yes that's correct I know it's not a great improvement but my friend is building his first pc so I'm going to sell him some parts for cheapish and upgrade. But I saw in that article it said if I purchased windows it's not so bad so does that mean I can do it and when it mentioned not working it said windows 7 and 8 but I have 10?

But also I have a spare 2tb Seagate sshd if that would work better to backup my pc I just would rather avoid it because I have around 400gb in steam games I'd rather not reinstall ya know lol itd take so long.
