system:
i5 3570K
16gb ram ddr3
1050 ti 4gb
240gb ssd

I tried playing GTA 5 but was dipping to 20 fps. Any suggestions on my bottleneck?

Yep, that's definitely the issue then. You were seeing thermal throttling. It shouldn't be damaged. Make sure your heatsync is properly applied though

All setting are low, all background applications turned down. My cpu has 4 cores 4 threads and 3.4 ghz out the box, would that really cause a bottleneck?

Well real quick, 4 cores/4 threads is i5. i7 would be 4 cores/8 threads. Each of your cores equals one thread. So it's not that you have 4 cores and 4 threads, it's that you have 4 cores that are 4 threads. That's why you get an i7 over an i5, the 4 hyperthreaded cores.

and it could, but if you set things higher in the graphics, your GPU will take over a bit more. Try turning anti aliasing off, and textures to medium.

edit: [strike]Also, what resolution is it? You didn't answer that in your last post[/strike]

Just saw the last post, that should be fine

realized an important factor when in my bios settings. CPU temps reading 98 C. Just got the cooler master, and won't turn my system on before then. Hope i didn't damage anything... Thanks for your help.
