can i play high res audio on motherboard onboard sound?

it know it may sound dumb, but can the motherboard's onboard sound play high res audio (flac); or do i need a dac/amp? also do the headphones matter in terms of playing it (i have ath m50x if that helps)

also can my samsung note 4 play high res audio?

my mother board is MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 if it help

You may end up spending several hundred $$$, and still not be able to tell an actual difference.
Your best bet is to maybe borrow some headphones, and maybe a sound card. See if there IS a difference, and if that is something you need to invest in.

when i play it, it wont work in itunes, so i used vlc media player. Im not an audiophile so i cant really tell the difference but im not sure if thats my motherboard, the player or my headphones?

will a dac/amp make it better?

thats kind of the problem, because lots of people say it sounds better; and i think it kind of does but i dont know if thats a placebo effect or not
