Hi everyone.

I'd like to ask if it is still worth it to buy the MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X 3g priced at $235? 'Cause I have this friend selling it to me. I know that this is a bad time to be building a rig especially due to the mining craze. Btw, I'll only be gaming at 1080p.

Just asking your opinion if this would be a fair transaction in my part because I know I won't be upgrading my graphics card in the near future if I buy his card.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

There aren't that many games that demand more than 3GB VRAM at 1080p. Some do however. DE:MD is one such game I played recently that had to off-load some graphics data to system memory occasionally with the 4GB card I was using at the time. But I didn't notice any in-game issues even then. And that was only when playing with max textures.

3GB is probably not the best choice for AAA games now and those that are yet to be released, but you should not have any problem with the card even then. It's a personal choice when it comes down to it. If you can or want to afford more, then go for 6GB or greater. If not, the 3GB card will not stop your gaming enjoyment. And upper end gfx cards are not going to get any cheaper anytime soon...

Depending on the rest of your system specs, yes. Still a good card. And like all Nvidia cards, it too is seeing price hikes do to the resurgence in the Crypto mining craze. I had one awhile back, and the 3GB was not an issue when it came to high textures at 1080p.

Here's a video review you may find interesting...

$235 probably isn't a bad price considering the recent price increases, although you may be able to find some new cards for around that same price. See these two cards at Newegg for example, currently both $230...

They also come with a fresh 3 year warranty that could be useful if the card has any problems down the line. And a key for Rocket League apparently, which is currently on sale for $11.99 on Steam.

You guys think I should wait to get or find a better deal? I am actually fine with the 3GB version 'cause I'll be sticking with 1080p gaming for the meantime. Only concern is that if I ever buy this card, will it be enough for gaming in the next couple of years knowing that games(AAA titles mostly) develop rapidly.

Btw... the decision might depend on the system specs this card will be matched up with.
