I'm trying to connect my computer to an ethernet port inside my house that I'm sure was previously working. Everything else functioning and I tried the ethernet on my router and it worked fine.

Is there a way to check if the ethernet ports around the house are connected to my modem?

If anyone has any insight that would be great. Thank you.

I fixed my problem, I checked my amplifier in the basement and the cable to the room I was trying to get was not plugged into the splitter. So I plugged it in and...it worked!

Thank you for the help though!
Ethernet cable tester and ethernet network tester are terms used interchangeably. They do exactly what you asked. Check ports back to a central location, such as your router/modem. For the port that is not working, you'll need to determine ir it's just a wall socket that is not working or if the cable in the wall is damaged. Once again, that's what the tester is for. One other thing to do, is just replace the wall ports at both ends and see if it works again.

Before buying a tester you may want to pull the plate out from the wall and inspect the connections. If you need to reterminate the cable you'll need a punchdown tool. Then you can use a tester to verify which port each jack runs to.
Punchdown tool: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Punch-Down-Impact-Blade/dp/B0072K1QHM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1499150826&sr=8-3&keywords=punchdown+tool
Tester: https://www.amazon.com/Network-Cable-Tester-Test-Tool/dp/B01EBQWQ5K/ref=sr_1_25?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1499150702&sr=1-25&keywords=ethernet+tester
Make sure you use the "B" color pattern on the jacks.
