So im looking to build a gaming rig and was wondering if i should get a used 980ti for 250 or a used 1080 for 400 or a brand new 1070 for 450. which thanks to bitcoin prices are higher than ever. i dont plan on building this pc right now so i could wait for a price drop. i would be running a ryzen 7 1700 when i build my gaming rig.

The 1080 is a no brainer at that price but I wouldn't trust it at that price! Who I their right mind would sell a 1080 for 400??

The 1070 is the best all around bang for the buck for 1920x1080 gaming, even at 144mhz (i'm doing it and it's butter). Yes, miners are driving these through the roof and buying them out and it's only gonna get worse as apparently new ether mining apps love the memory bandwidth of Pascal. If you go 1070 and can get one under $450 grab it.

Vega is not a bust since Vega for gamers isn't actually out yet (RX Vega). RX Vega may be great, but (1) you're gonna wait and (2) you'd still need to be ok with putting your faith in the hands of AMD drivers which can still be flaky and that's today in GPUs they've had out...

For 1080p Gaming 980ti (60 FPS Ultra Settings)
For 1440p Gaming 1070 (60 FPS Ultra/High combo Settings)
For 2160p Gaming 1080 (60 FPS High Settings)

I personally would go with brand new GPU, as there might be chance of scam, if its not trust worthy source.
There are Turbo cards from Asus and Gigabyte of GTX 1080 with price range of 475-520.

The GTX 980Ti would have similar, if not better, graphics performance compared to the GTX 1070: http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-980-Ti-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1070/3439vs3609

The GTX 1080 is the best GPU among the three.

Consider the GTX 980Ti / GTX 1070 if you intend to max. out AAA games on a 1440p/60Hz monitor or on a 1080p/~120Hz monitor.

Consider the GTX 1080 if you are looking to max. out AAA games on a 1440p/~120Hz monitor or on a 1080p/144Hz++ monitor.

Since you will not be buying the GPU now (at those current prices), consider the factors above when choosing the GPU at that point in time.

Note also that the GTX 980Ti has the disadvantage of consuming more power than the GTX 1070 or GTX 1080. But a good-quality 550W PSU should suffice for any of the aforementioned GPUs you will pair with the Ryzen 7 1700.

I wouldn't call it a bust yet, wait until the actual RX Vega reviews are out. The FE is for workstation tasks and that is what the drivers are optimized for, plus we don't know the cost of the RX yet.

You're going to go 2k 60hz or high hz? If going 100+hz you have to get the 1080, if you're going 2k 60hz you can get away with a 1070 and some lowered settings on the more demanding games. Also a 7700k will squeeze out more FPS if you can spend the extra cash.
