MSI GTX 980ti Lightning - power connectors question

I'm in the process of upgrading from a 970 video card, and have found a used but working MSI 980ti Lightning a friend is selling for a good price. I found out that suprisingly the card needs 2 8 pin power connections and 1 pin, and had some questions about that.

I'm currently all out of PCIe connectors, I had 2 but sold them off with two old graphics cards. My power supply is a Corsair HX650W Bronze 80+. It's only got 2 6pin power connectors on the psu - and I read somewhere that for the lightning you should use 3 seperate cables for each of the pin ports on the gpu. Is there any truth to this?

So basically, would I be fine using the pci cable included with the card (6 pin to 8pin) and buying a dual cable (6 pin to 6+2 and 8pin) to power the card?

Thanks, i'm rather new to this.

That card requires two 8pins (or 6+2pin) and one 6pin. Its a top of the line 980 ti meant for heavy overclocking, such as LN2 overclocking where the amount of power that card can provide to the core might be needed. I don't think it would even boot up without all the required cables attached. So I think you will need a new power supply if that psu only has two 6+2pin pcie cables, you may be able to use some kind of splitter adapter but I usually don't recommend that.
