I've been trying to find out if I can put a quad core processor in my laptop for hours. I have a compaq presario cq57_315nr notebook pc (No clue if that stuff helps). I've been been all over the Hp's support page looking up specifications for my motherboard so I can see if I can upgrade, but to no avail. I know I currently have a dual core processor with 2.something GHz (I want a quad with 3.0 from AMD). I wish i could tell you the exact name of the processor my laptop currently has (that I want to replace), but I cant at the moment. All I know is it's from AMD.

Ps: I can give you more info on my laptop if needed.

You need to provide the exact model number: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/compaq-presario-cq57-300-notebook-pc-series/5145720/model/5186382/document/c00033108 The specs for the Compaq Presario CQ57-315NR don't match what you wrote: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03015475 The CPU in that notebook only is 1.3 GHz. You could use CPU-Z or check in Control Panel, System and Security, System to verify what CPU is installed.

If your CPU is an AMD Dual-Core E-300, then you most likely can't upgrade that 18W CPU by one that draws a lot more power because the motherboard won't support it (BIOS and VRM).
