I recently send my motherboard for fixing so now i have to reapply the thermal paste so i can put my cpu back onto the motherboard. However when it came to removing the paste, i have no idea how to do it.
I search online and found that i had to buy the remover which costs like $20 here in my country, which i would like to avoid if possible. My friend then told me that i could use alcohol wipes to remove it (the kind you use to disinfect wounds) to remove it.
Is that method safe? will it damage the cpu or anything of that sort?

if is too thick, use toilet paper with wet with isoprphyl alcohol, industrial alcohol, but not that we that it drips everywhre, gently push untill it comes out everything out of the surface

usually is soft enough that you can remove it without the alcohol

there is also a professional material

https://www.amazon.com/ArctiClean-60ml-Kit-30ml/dp/B0007TOR08

is a matter of just gently scrub until the surface is clean, don't use too much force, in a couple minutes it will be clean and ready to apply more thermal paste

linus made a video, using whatever he found including coffee filter and cocacola iirc
