Background:

PC had no GPU (mobo: ASRock h61m-dgs) so plugged in the new Nvidia Quadro FX1800 (quite old, but shouldn't see why it wouldn't work). Had no DVI cable for monitor, only a VGA to VGA which I kept plugged into the mobo. Turned PC on, fans work on GPU, but monitor didn't turn on. Plan 2: connected HDTV up using a DVI to HDMI cable. Turned on fine, although display settings were off and didn't go as high as 1080p. Next step: install drivers (downloaded from Nvidia website and installed using the executable file). Required restart and upon restarting, mobo (and BIOS I think it's called) loads but the screen on the TV goes blank.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong here?

Should it still not connect and turn on when connected to the mobo, though?

Regardless of that, I've connected the TV to the graphics card and it won't turn on after I restarted after the driver installation...
