I have an ASUS mother board with six slots for RAM. There are 3 2gb sticks in 3 of the slots. I have a single 8gb stick. Would it be better to upgrade to the 1 8gb stick for an extra 2gb or just stay with the 3 sticks at 6gb?

Core i7 2.8ghz
Asus P6T-SE
Samsung 8gb 2Rx8 PC3 12800U-11-11-B1 or Adata DDR3 1333(9) 2GX16 U-DIMM
Seagate 250gb SATA
MSI N750TI

Sounds like you're on an X58 chipsetted motherboard. If so then you're best option is to go for a 3x2GB kit to avail triple channel memory. mind you, if the spec of the single stick of 8GB of ram is higher than the three sticks of 2GB of ram then you could see a benefit in tasks. Mind sharing your full system's specs inclusive of your OS? List them like so:
