Can I mix these ram sticks? (4GB + 8GB)

I currently have:

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB DDR3 PC 12800 1.5V / Timing: 9-9-9-24 / CAS Latency: 9

I also have a stick of this:
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB DDR3 PC 12800 1.5V / Timing: 10-10-10-30 / CAS Latency: 10

Both obviously run at the same speeds, DDR type and voltage so I'm wondering if this will work alright? Won't the higher 8GB stick just drop to the timing and latency of the 4GB stick?

I know people warn against mixing, but if the difference is 1 FPS then I don't care whatsoever as long as they run in dual channel mode. Currently playing a game called ARK that uses 8-10GB of RAM and could use the boost as I do notice the desktop locking up at times. I'd rather go with what I have than dish out the cash for a new set.

Thanks.

10 is slower than 9 in the world of CAS the latency is basically how many clock cycles required to respond to a request.
So you'll want to "slow down" the 4GB stick from 9 to 10

It should be no big deal, if you tested it with a benchmark there would definately be a performance hit. In the real world you're unlikely to notice though, and more is better when it comes to ram. You'll want to change the timings so they match to minimize funny business. Ive done it(a long time ago) on an old AM2 Asus board with two 512MB and two 1GB random generic modules and had no problems and did enjoy a performance increase in games that used the extra ram. And since there both ripjaw compatability should not be an issue.

Yeah, I figure it is worth the risk given how similar they are how the latency/timing isn't far off at all. Question though, do I change the timings in the BIOS? Thanks.

yeah, and i would change the 4GB stick to 10-10-10-30 CAS 10 just because the 8GB stick isnt rated for the tighter timing. If it works i would greatly appreciate if you let me know. I havnt tried in a long time and would like to know if its still a viable opton. Thanks bro

So boost the 4GB up instead of the 8GB down? I've been reading that it always is best to go with the lowest. Kind of confused. I know a bit about PCs but when it comes to the memory realm I'm * out of luck.

How do you find out what timing they're rated for?

Makes sense. Will test it out and let you know. Here's to hoping it doesn't blow up.
