Asus Strix 1070 08GB issues (black screen, fans to 100%)

I am now on my second Asus strix 1070 08GB card because the first had LED issues from the start. About two months after getting my new card, I randomly get blackscreens on both my monitors and the fans on the GPU shoot to 100% all of a sudden like the GPU overheated. My temps are always low or well below the temp to overheat the card when this occurs. This happens randomly when gaming, watching youtube, or watching twitch. Here is a video of the card after the black screen problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sknv7mWBSes

I've only been able to find one other thread about this issue here on tom's hardware and that is the only information I can find about it anywhere. I really don't want to have to go through the process of RMA'ing this card because it is dreadful and I'm already on my second card. Really frustrated with ASUS at this point.

I have a suspicion it isn't the video card, especially since you RMA'ed it once. Also you stated it happens apparently randomly.

Lets start with a full memory check. Run the memory diagnostic tool. It can be found by pressing windows + R and entering "mdsched.exe" without quotes and hit enter. Just let it do its thing (it usually takes a looooong time so something to do when sleeping).

Ran the diagnostic tool and no problems were found. The test completed to 100% and just booted normally. Got a windows notification saying no issues were found. Test only took about 2 minutes

I'm using the same card right now in my mini/itx. I haven't had any issues with it. I run mine continuously at 35% fan speed in stead of the 0dba thing where it cuts the fans off I like the extra air flow in the case and I like to keep the GPU as cool as possible I don't feel it's healthy to let them heat up before the fans kick in.

I've tried re-installing the drivers and software for the card already. Trying to keep the fans running constantly around 40% right now. So far since I ran the diagnostic test nothing has happened but like I've stated before it is very random. Some times I will go a few days before it will happen again, and some days it is 2-3 times a day.

I don't unfortunately. The prior card (the one with the LED issues) did not have this problem which is why I'm skeptical that it would be the PSU

I wish you knew someone with a PC so you could swap around parts to figure out what is causing it. I found this even though it's the 1080 it's still the same card basically.

So try taking the card out and disconnecting the psu from it then re-installing it and see if that works. I know when I installed mine the first time I didn't seat it very well so I did the same before using it. Sometimes new parts don't fit aswell the first time like other things in life

I have re-seated the PSU 3 or 4 times now to no avail. The problem hasn't occurred yet again since I set my fans to a fixed rate. I still feel really shaky about the card though. I do have a friend with another PC but like I said the problem has occurred so randomly and sporadically that I would need almost a whole day with my card in his PC to run a decent test.

I mean if it seems fine now go ahead and give it a stress test if it fails atleast you can rma it. Let us know how it turns out. Maybe you can rma it and get a different one maybe that cards bios just doesn't get along with your motherboard.

Did you manage to fix it? If yes, can you explain what happened? I have the same card with same issue and don't know what to do.
