Computer freezing and crashing when playing games

Hi all,

So I've been having some issues with my computer since I put it all together. The parts are mostly hand me downs from my sister's old gaming pc, which used to work perfectly well. I'm new to PC gaming so I don't know much about PC building.

Whenever I try to play a video game like Overwatch or Pay Day 2, the game seems to boot up fine. But after a few minutes playing, I experience some frame drops, freezing, and sometimes it even crashes my whole computer. When playing Overwatch, even trying to click esc to pull up the menu or just reverting back to the home menu screen, the game will freeze or the menu will take 10 minutes to show any options. During this time my CPU fan seems to run extra hard, though the temps seem relatively normal.

What might be the problem with my computer/how can I fix it?

Here are my specs:
CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5Hz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Micro ATX AM3+
Memory: Anarchy 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 and Vulcan 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
Storage: Western Digital Blue 1TB 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7790 1GB
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 430W 80 Plus Bronze certified ATX12V
Case: Corsair SPEC Alpha Mid Tower

First thing, make sure your heatsink and components are seated properly. Test with one pair of RAM at a time. Could be any number of things from overheating (you did not post exact temps of the system while gaming) to drivers to a failing hard drive, to RAM to the video card to the power supply. Almost anything.

I believe the heatsink is seated properly but I will check the RAM and report back
I recently encountered some new issues as well when trying to run Overwatch again, in which the sound completely cut out and the models stopped loading in.
My computer has also crashed and when booting back up, an error came up in which it said "A disk read error occurred," but has not popped up again. Im assuming a hard drive issue, but the hard drive is brand new.

My temps as far as my cpu is maxing out at 44c and a min of 36c
