My PC/Xbox 360 Gaming controller stopped working, is it a hardware issue?

I recently bought a knockoff Xbox 360 controller that stopped working. It has a small wireless USB insert that connects the controller to the computer but the drive stopped working. I have reinstalled the drive numerous times, but every time my computer doesn't recognize the device. I tried using a direct connection to the controller but it can't connect. I'm starting to think someone messed with the hardware, I opened it up and there seems to be two plastic like drops on it. (I wouldn't put it past my roommates). You can see I scraped at one trying to figure out what it is. Is this messing with the controller at all? (Sorry for my ignorance,I don't know hardware very well) Link to Imgur gallery
