Hi all. Hoping you can help me with this head scratcher. Not AMD related! lol. Brand new Samsung 850 EVO 500GB. Firstly, the benchmarks:

The 4K-64Thrd is horrendous. Tried another SATA port - same behaviour. Not able to try in another PC at this time. Any thoughts?

Additional Details:

  • ■ Dell Optiplex 9010 w/ Windows 10. Latest BIOS. AHCI. Speed Step etc. turned off
    ■ Intel Panther Point PCH - SATA AHCI Controller [C1] Rev 4 according to HWInfo
    ■ Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller (Driver 13.0.0.1098 from Intel in 2014, last available I believe since C216 not supported in Windows 10)
    ■ SATA3 Gen 3 6.0 Gbps port, AHCI Version 1.30
    ■ No other HDDs/SSDs connected
    ■ Similar results in Samsung Magician, no RAPID. Maximum Performance setting.
    ■ Intel RST running. Driver 13.0.0.1098 as per C216 chipset. NCQ. 512 byte sector size.
    ■ SSD image came from HDD clone. Using fresh W10 install as last resort. Or maybe restricted to W7 because of C216?
Thanks in advance!

Solution
what for? the manufacturer's software is much better or SSDlife. try removing RST and restart then run it again. also check to see if you have any available driver updates

Hi qazzi. My understanding was that Intel RST is used with rapid storage devices like SSDs, and not just for RAID. Anyway, I uninstalled, and good news - improvement:

Only 4K read looks a little off. Driver reverted back:

Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller - 1E02
Intel 9.3.0.1011
26/08/2011

Only AHCI drivers I can see on Dell site refer to the Intel RST drivers. Windows doesn't find any more recent driver. This page makes it clear Intel haven't supplied drivers for Windows 10:

So leave as is, uninstall Intel driver and see what happens (probably risky), try an Intel RST driver (only), or something else?

Thanks for helping find a solution here!

not really risky...you always install the driver if you encounter any errors. for now just use the intel driver... actually Intel RST is used on multiple SSD/HDD to boost performance. but if you are only using 1 Drive...it can mess with the speed..also intel RST includes the SRT which is a caching technology..basically it is used in combo with a small SSD and HDD...the SSD becomes a Cache for the HDD to improve performance.
