I've had my computer for a year now and recently ran into this issue. Half the time I hit the power button on my computer the power goes on and the fans start running but there is no beep sound before anything starts to load up on the monitor. When this happens I reseat my GPU and sometimes that fixes the problem, sometimes I half to reseat twice or three times before it works again. The power cables are plugged in, its not over heating but sometimes my system just shuts down and I have to reseat again to reboot.

GPU: gtx 980 strix
CPU: AMD Fx 6350
Stock clocks and speeds
ASUS Motherboard
PSU: Rosewill Capstone 850[strike][/strike]

Solution

Best guess it's your PSU. Anti-Surge monitors PSU voltages and shuts down the PSU if there is a threat it will damage other parts. If it is triggered for some reason...

just had my PC crash again and I can't start it.... I'm pretty sure the pc doesn't even POST when starting because the fans just fun full speed and no beep. I am currently using my mobo's on board graphics card to type this and it works good.... my computer start up from sleep normally (if it hasn't crashed). Also when I boot up my PC after the crash and after reseating GPU or RAM the screen says ASUS anti surge activated or something along those lines.... This is like when you can access BIOS and that screen before windows boots..... maybe that is worth noting?

I don't think it is the power supply becasue sometimes it starts fine and I can run everything under a load and it performs well..... On board GPU works.

Best guess it's your PSU. Anti-Surge monitors PSU voltages and shuts down the PSU if there is a threat it will damage other parts. If it is triggered for some reason like you stated, there's a high chance it's your PSU. Your PC doesn't shut down at a fixed time since the voltages vary from time to time. Once the voltage fluctuate more than what Asus considers safe, your PSU is forced to shut down in order to protect your GPU, CPU, etc.
