So ive recently gotten my first gaming pc. Because i wanted to make my gaming experience good for the first time, i made a pretty good build with the help of a friend of mine. So i set it up with no problem, everything installs fine, and windows is up and running. So i start up a game i personally love playing (even in low fps) rust! I start up the game and everything loads fast in the loading screen. However, i get in the game and of course i get about 20-40 frames. It mostly stays around 35 though. I dont know if this helps at all but when i look up in the game in get 80fps but when i look forward i get back to about 35 frames. So how can i fix this? Ive honestly tried so many things to try and fix this. I dont think its a hardware issue but i could be wrong. Please help me!!! thank you.

My PC build:
GEFORCE® GTX 1060 GAMING X 6G

AMD FD8350FRHKBOX FX-8350 FX-Series 8-Core Black Edition Processor

Sceptre 32" LED Curved Widescreen Monitor

Western Digital WD10EZEX 1TB Blue 7200RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5inch Hard Drive

Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM (64-bit)

Corsair CMZ8GX3M1A1866C10 Vengeance 8GB DDR3-1866 240-pin SDRAM Memory

Phanteks Enthoo Pro M Mid Tower Chassis, Black Cases PH-ES515P_BK

EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G1 120-G1-0650-XR 650W 80 PLUS Gold ATX12V & EPS12V Power Supply

Asus DRW-24B1STA 24X Internal DVD+/-RW Drive (Black), Bulk

ASRock MB-970EX4 Socket AM3+/ AMD 990FX/ AMD Quad CrossFireX& nVidia Quad SLI/ SATA3&USB3.0/ A&GbE/ ATX Motherboard

I think thats it. All help is appreciated!

Id like to add that it cant be rust because my friend has a worse GPU and the same CPU.

Two things to watch here, temps, specially if you're using the stock cooler that comes with the FX-8350, and your mobo's VRM, I've been unable to find out how many VRMs that mobo has, but you need at least 8 VRM (power phase modulators) to properly run an FX-8xxx cpu, check that because even if the mobo states that it supports the FX-8xxx series if it doesn't have enough VRMs it won't simply run properly.

It could also be that the VRMs are overheating which is very likely to happen when using the stock amd cooler.

Considering that the frame rates become high when looking up at the sky, I would expect it's more something to do with the graphics card side of things, since a CPU limitation would more than likely result in performance remaining low whether the graphics card is rendering much or not.

Are the graphics settings configured higher than what your friend is playing the game at? I believe that system should be able to handle the game fairly well at 1080p with high settings, but if you have something like SSAA/Dynamic Super Resolution enabled it could kill performance on a GTX 1060. I believe your monitor is 1080p, right?

Rust is still in development stages mate it's not going to be wholly optimised yet and performance vary across different systems. Couple things you could try if you haven't yet is not run the game in DX12 and disable Xbox dvr in Windows.

Seems the game is running better on AMD cards for the moment.

There's talk about rust performance at Geforce and Steam forums.

Theres really not much else you can do besides hang in there and try tips and tweaks while the game develops and gpu drivers for the game improve.

Well i dont think i have the super resolution enabled and yes, my monitor supports is 1080p. Im even using nvidia geforce experience which cahnges my settings to run the game really well and its still staying at around 35 fps :(

boju, i dont think the game just runs better for certain people. Im pretty sure that this is an issue on my end because even PUBG is having a problem which sucks really bad too.

Just to put it out there i even ran a bottlenecking program called thebottlenecker and it said that "Graphic card and processor will work great together" and that it only bottlenecks by 4%

Ok, Microsoft have made it hard to determin if their own drivers Win10 automatically installs could be at conflict with drivers you install yourself over the top of them. Even if you do a clean install, a reboot after an uninstall of a driver will see it reinstall again. Normally it wouldnt be a problem since drivers can reinstall without rebooting albeit is always best to reboot for best results imo.

Since creators update MS has quietly removed the ability to easily stop automatic driver updates. Plan of attack on your side might be to stop it, read here;

https://www.howtogeek.com/302595/how-to-stop-windows-10-from-automatically-updating-hardware-drivers/

After which, use ddu http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html to uninstall video drivers in safemode. Reboot to windows normally it shouldnt install its own and install gpu drivers you have downloaded from nvidia.com.

Its not guaranteed to fix your issue though but if its a software related it might help.

You have installed as well chipset drivers for your motherboard?

so i just ran the set up and i installed the catalyst thing or whatever its called, rebooted, and then ran rust and payday 2 and only got about 30-45 frames once again. This is stupid. It shouldnt be a hardware issue should it?

well i know its not a problem with the fx 8350 because my friend has that and he runs it amazingly

If it's a software issue with Rust, it may not specifically be a hardware issue. It could be something like that CPU + that Mobo + that GPU + that OS version causes Rust to improperly allocate resources. Or something completely different. That's why I asked if you experience the same problems with other games. If you do, then there's likely something going on with your system. If all other games run as expected, then it's probably just a problem with Rust, which is still in development.

there has to be something wrong. I ran skyrim and got only 60fps on max. My friend also ran it and got 70-80 and sometimes even more in the same area. There has to be something wrong :(

I don't play Skryim but searching about 60fps cap in this game is everywhere (Unless modded), so TMTOWTSAC looks to be right. Seems anything over 60fps can cause problems so the game's engine is capped because of it. There are ways around it but not so sure how successful.

Back to your system.

This isn't really getting anywhere so we'll try a different approach, beginning with a few questions.

1) Can you list your friends PC setup with which your comparing with please.

2) Is Windows 10 an upgrade or fresh install?

3) Have you reinstalled GPU drivers by using DDU first in safemode?

4) Have you checked cpu/gpu temps?
CPU/socket: Max core temp should be around 65c and socket 75c
GPU: <83c

5) Both your friend and yourself run 3DMark Firestrike and reply results from both graphics (gpu) and physics (cpu) scores.

Example to compare: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/10264154 (Fx-8350 + GTX1060)
Graphics score: 14 560
Physics Score: 9 487

Thanks. Will look forward to seeing both you and your friends score. No cheating! Be honest!

1) overclocked gtx 970,
2x8 gb 1866 hz ram,
amd fx 8350,
650 watt power supply
msi 970 gaming motherboard

2) The first operating system this computer ever had was windows 10 so im guessing thats a fresh install.

3) I've only installed the drivers from the nvidia website for my GPU and it wasnt in safe mode.

4) My cpu temp is about 47 C and the load is about 40%
My GPU temp is about 65 C and the load is about 75%

5) Friends: graphics score 11820
physics 6935
combined score 2850

My score: graphics score 12809
physics score: 7855
combined score: 2992
