How to pick an SSD?

I'm looking to add another SSD to my PC as the one I have now is really just for my OS and a few other things. I'm looking at PC Part Picker and trying to understand the difference in price.

A 256gb Samsung 840 Pro series is about the same price as a 500gb Samsung 850 EVO-Series. Why? Links: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/wrNp99/samsung-internal-hard-drive-mz7pd256bw , https://pcpartpicker.com/product/FrH48d/samsung-internal-hard-drive-mz75e500bam

I'm basically choosing from the best rated SSDs here : https://pcpartpicker.com/products/internal-hard-drive/#R=5,4&S=200000,10000000&t=0&sort=-rating&page=1

Any suggestions? I don't get the pricing of some over others. Thanks

The 840 Pro is EOL so of course the retail price won't make sense.

Don't go by the user ratings, they're unreliable at best.

For a good, affordable ~250GB or ~500GB SSD I'd suggest the Sandisk Ultra II or SK Hynix SL308.
