Does a 7700k bottleneck a GTX 970?

I'm trying to decide what to upgrade my cpu to, and I've narrowed it down to either a 6700k or a 7700k. Upon using the Bottleneck calculator, it said that my GPU would be too weak for a 7700k, but not for a 6700k. However, they are the same price so I'd rather get more bang for my buck. What do you guys think?

My pc specs are:
EVGA GTX 970 SSC
Intel Core I5 4430 CPU
Western Blue digital
1TB HDD
MSI B85m-G43 motherboard
Corsair CX500 Power supply
Asus VX238H Monitor
2x4gb G.skills ripjaw ram

Thanks in advance

Before you jump on the Skylake/Kabylake processor(s) you will need to also know that you'll need a Z170(if Skylake)/Z270(if Kabylake) motherboard and DDR4 rams to make your migration worth while.

To answer the question you've posted, the GTX970 will not be bottlenecked.

FYI, you're barely cutting it with that PSU. If possible get a PSU of a higher wattage and of a better quality.

I don't think thinking of things in terms of "bottlenecks" is useful.

In the games you play, you need a CPU fast enough to deliver the framerates you want. The amount of CPU required for 60fps is the same regardless of what GPU you have, or what graphical settings you run, and a faster CPU is always better. The only reason to buy less is to save money.

Regarding the question of whether a 7700k will bottleneck a GPU. You can't purchase anything with more potential to return higher frames per second in most games, unless your performance issues are coming from a lack of threaded performance, so the question is irrelevant.

Even if the 7700k is a bottleneck in some situations, what possible CPU has the potential for higher FPS in the majority of games than the 7700k at the current time?

Darn, I feared that I'd need to get a new motherboard. Do you know any that would be compatible but not too expensive?

Your best bet would be to provide us with an upgrade budget.

For your current motherboard, you'd probably be better off with an I5-4670 or an I7-4770 processor, but the improvements over your current processor are probably not worth the cost of the upgrade.

That means a complete core system replacement: CPU, Motherboard, RAM which *may* also require a new Windows license (and power supply if you intend to go with a new graphics card as well).

I'm fine with my gpu as it is, so no need upgrading that. Minus the cost of the cpu, I'm probably willing to spend 150 more, maybe 200 on a new mobo and ram.

Thanks for the help by the way
