Hey,
I have tried to install 2 new blocks of RAM into my PC, previously i had 2x 4Gb blocks and i put another 2 sticks of 4GB in to make 16 in total. After doing this i have been frequently getting BSoDs and im not sure why.

The new RAM is the exact same as the ones i had in before, "HyperX FURY 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3 1866 MHz CL10 DIMM" which is compatible with my MSI Z97-G43 motherboard.

When i take the new RAM out and run on 8GB the problem goes away, but i still want to have 16GB of RAM so that doesnt really fix the problem, running a debugger on the DMP files only tells me that the problem is "ntkrnlmp.exe" which i've found out tells me pretty much nothing. I've tried a bunch of fixes, thinking first it was the heat and so putting my fans at a higher speed, but nothing ive done has fixed the problem.

Help??

Solution

Download the Memtest86 ISO (USB or CD), boot off it with all sticks installed, walk away for at least 2 hours (1 full pass).
http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm

But, if you could, I'd recommend returning the new, selling the old, and picking up a 2x8GB kit.
Problem solved.

Run some memtest 86+ diagnostics on the system with all 16GBs installed. (run for at least 1 full pass - probably ~2 hours)
Unless you got all 4 sticks in the same kit there's no guarantee of compatibility - even if the memory is the exact same model.

Does the problem go away when you take out the old RAM and just lease the new?

Just realizing now i've already run Windows Memory Diagnostics when the problem started and it came up detecting no errors. Is there a specific program you would suggest i use to test it other than that? If so could you link me?

Getting 4 sticks of unmatched ram to work together is problematical at best and impossible at worst. Even getting two matched kits(even same brand make model and timings) purchased at different times to work together is a crapshoot. They sell matched ram kits for a reason.
YMMV.

Oh really, thats interesting i havent heard that anywhere that i've looked for a solution! Would you recommend returning the new RAM, selling the old and instead getting a pair of 2x 8GB Ram then?

Thanks!

I'd recommend either that, or get a 4x4GB kit, whichever is more economical.
