Greetings everyone,

I've been getting a problem where my temporary folder in "AppData\Local" keeps randomly missing as if it were deleted, and when it happened any picture i open it showed this.--->

Also, here's another problem --->

This problem never occurred to me before, it just happened recently. I also did a full factory reset, full windows update, and a couple moments later it happen again just like before the reset. I've gotten fed up with this, as this has becoming like a chore, to which every random time it went missing i had to manually go into my " appdata/local " folder and re-create the " Temp " folder each time

I know i'm stating the obvious, and i can assure you i'm not a professional, but the temp folder is very important as some sort of a folder that contain all the written apps/program that you've visited or opened. Thus is if the folder is gone some of the program/apps will not work smoothly.

Solution
Hi, I wouldn't be surprised if it was CCleaner's registry cleaning causing problems. While I don't see how it could delete the Temp folder, I guess anything is possible when the registry isn't set up correctly. I don't recommend anyone using CCleaner's registry cleaner.

I had a few additional ideas to help discover what the problem was so if it comes back, first try the method I described above, and if it doesn't work let me know.

Anyway, I'm glad you got it fixed. Take Care.

Hi, download, unzip, and run [Process Monitor]. No install is needed. It's from Microsoft so it's safe.

Once you start the program up, it will be monitoring everything. That's too much information. Click on the 3rd toolbar button to Stop monitoring. Click on the 5th toolbar button to clear the list.

We'll set it up to monitor only new files/folders, deleted files/folders, etc. We can do this with "Filters". Click on the Filters menu and choose "Filters...".

There are 4 parts to each filter. It may look something like this:
1. Architecture
2. is
3. [Blank]
then
4. Include

Lets add the filter we need to monitor for file/folder creation and deletion. For the filter, set the 4 things below:

1. Operation
2. is
3. SetRenameInformationFile
then
4. Include

Then click the Add button. Now in the list below, uncheck ALL of the other Filters except the one that we've made.

Proc_Mon1.jpg

Choose OK.

Click on the 3rd toolbar button again to begin monitoring.

Leave Process Monitor running in the background. You can minimize it if you like.

The more things you are doing on your PC (such as web browsing, etc,) the more Operations that will be logged. Try to keep your activity to a minimum, or at least do what you are normally doing when the Temp folder disappears.

Eventually you will see the Operation that removes the folder along with what Process Name that did it. Remember that the 3rd toolbar button will Start/Stop monitoring and the 5th toolbar button will clear the list.

I hope this helps.

Hello, gardenman. Thank you for your feedback. I wanted to tell you that i haven't tried your method yet. What i suspected was my CCleaner that was messing my up registry etc, because at somepoint i have done a little bit of registry cleaning with the CCleaner program without any backup, thus possibly having issue with the temporary folder for that matter.

So far what i did was, i had my computer factory reset again for the 2nd time, but this time i will not download/install nor use the CCleaner program. But, i could not 100% confirm that the CCleaner program are the one causing it. As of right now i will try to avoid CCleaner with the computer being fresh from the factory reset.

However, if the problem still occurs even with CCleaner being out of the picture and computer is fresh from the reset. I could try your method and relay the problem again.
