This problem began recently.
Whenever I'm playing games (this seems to be specific to Steam games - Origin and GOG don't seem to be affected), the computer will freeze, and makes a noise as though the power's been cut. USB devices shut off, monitor and fans stay on. I have to hold down the power button to turn off the computer and restart it. I ran an update for Windows and my graphics card. WhoCrashed is not logging anything either.

This is getting frustrating as I can't seem to find a solution through google. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Computer specs:
i5-6600k (stock speed)
Asus Z170-A Mobo
16GB DDR4 RAM (Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200)
MSI Armor GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (stock settings)
EVGA Supernova 650 G2
OS installed on Crucial MX300 275GB SSD
Games installed on SeaGate Barracuda 2TB

Solution
Well I'm going to answer my own question in case anybody else runs into this.

If you're running any Logitech peripherals (in my case a G710+ keyboard), then the Logitech Gaming Software needs to be updated to 8.92 along with updates to any other drivers.

Apparently Logitech has had several issues with their drivers, and in this case something went screwy and it wasn't playing nice with Steam in particular. Hopefully this'll help out others.
