GPU fan(s) make weird rattling noise at 75-85%

I got a Gainward GTX 1060 about a year ago. I overclocked it a bit, and set the fanspeed to 80%. It has worked fine, I've heard a slight rattling noise now and then but never gave it a second thought. Now the rattling noise is louder. I took the GPU out and tried to tighten the screws, but that didn't help. When I hold the GPU upside down (as it is mounted in the case) and tap the fan(s) lightly, it makes a similar rattling sound. When the fan spins and I touch the middle of it very lightly (yes) the sound also either disappears or gets very quiet compared to what it was. Suggestions?

If a fan begins to make a rattling sound when being used, it is going bad. The brushes or bearings are getting bad and before long the fan will stop working completely. You should be able to find replacement fans for your GPU fairly easily though. Most fans have small ball bearings in them that the shaft spins around or small brushes that electrically propel the fan. They can start to wear. The reason it gets quieter when you press down is because what is getting loose inside it, the pressure is pushing it back into place. It will get worse and you will begin to notice it more often and before long, you will notice higher GPU temps and the fan will eventually stop working.
