Hi guys I am absolutely frustrated and I know that there is little hope other than the fact that my gpu has some problems and I probably will have to have it repaired(under warranty) but I thought I might give a go and may be some fix would do the trick for me.

So here's the problem

My specs:

i5 3570k

Corsair 4GB Ram

Mobo: Gigabyte (cant remember the model)

Seagate 500GB HD

ASUS STRIX R7 370 2GB

So here's the problem

I mostly play bf3 and fifa 13/15 or demo of fifa 17 and while I experienced no issues when playing these titles a couple of days ago I had to re-install the windows by a tech guy in my area because my pc started to run into problems.

The guy who installed the windows for me said your hard disk is on the verge of getting dead so its probably the last time I am doing this for you. After re installing my pc was working fine and I played a few hours of fifa with my brother and friend.

Two days after I got a new hdtv (haier b8500) 32 inch as a gift and since I was using a CRT monitor for quite a while now because my old led got burnt due to voltage problem I was excited to try and play fifa on a big screen so I got it connected via hdmi and turned on the VSR (virtual super resolution) and gpu scaling just to test it out and suddenly I saw a notification that my GPU driver has stopped working and the screen flickered.

After that the PC froze and even after restarting it the problem did not go away and this time I was not even able to get past the windows welcome screen as every time the pc started hanging. I cut off the power supply to my GPU and tried to run the pc on built in graphics and voila it started working and after getting the PC working again I uninstalled the GPU drivers and restarted the PC with my gpu connected and installed the drivers again. I started the game again and the screen went complete grey this time and the problem appeared again.

I started the PC in safe mode and tried to uninstall the drivers of my gpu again but was unable to do so. I switched of my pc and the next day I installed the windows my self because I was able to see the boot menu on the new haier display which was impossible to do it on my previous CRT because of idk some compability issues.

This time I formatted everything from every drive and the PC was running very good while I was installing the drivers and watching some hd videos on youtube. In the mean while I also installed fifa 17 (demo) to play on it.

The PC again froze with a grey screen just a few moments after I loaded the game. I then decided to the PC to the shop and determine whether the Graphic card is the real issue or my hard drive is creating problems.

While in the shop the tech guy told me that he will add an extra 80 GB hard drive on my PC where he will install windows and you do other things in the old hard drive idk why but he said your pc wont hang anymore but this wasnt the case as soon as he started to play a game( the game was on an external storage i guess although i am not sure) i.e NFS carbon (yes old indeed) the PC again froze while I was able to run games like those on my built in hd 4000.

So I know you must be thinking its probably a faulty card but please do tell me if I can try a few things our myself.

I now have my PC back with windows 10 installed in the 80 GB hard drive and graphic card removed so that I can use it while I get a new gpu or have it repaired under warranty.

According to the tech guy which I kinda feel with all due respect does not know much about gaming gpus says that its over heating and probably a thermal paste would do the trick.

P.S : The ASUS gpu tweak utility was showing the temperature at around 40 or 50 C but the tech guy said your gpu is over heating because he feels although i touched the gpu myself but cant determine whether he was right or not.

No, it's not a faulty card. GPUs don't usually die until the power delivery gives out, which can take up to 10+ years, or if you're using a PowerColor card, 5+ years. Everything you have listed does indeed sound like the fault of a dying hard drive. Get a new drive and install a fresh copy of Windows onto it, and then see if that fixes the problem. For now, I recommend you not touch your rig, so as to prevent a total data loss.

Oops sorry forgot to mention the psu. I have a Corsair VS 550 which I bought in 2014 and and I have no problems with the PSU.
Cpu temps are around 40 at idle and probably 80 while gaming.
I still have that 500GB hard drive connected.
