First I watched a lot of guides and videos on how to build a pc and I found this build on youtube called the boson 4.0 and.i bought everything and tried it out. Once I was finished I pressed the power button and their was a spark on the motherboard, the fans started moving then everything stopped like the pc was never on. The only thing Im missing is the SSD and I already installed the HHD. I did place the CPU in the wrong place and I also added a little pressure to it until I figured out it wasn't correct and the thermal paste almost spilled on the side when I opened the fan up again to see if the CPU was fine because the thermal paste was already on the bottom of the fan. When I opened up the fan I DID TOUCH SOME OF THE THERMAL PASTE and then I was like O **** because if I messed it up I would get so mad... I don't think thats it, but I do think its either the battery supply or the CPU. Hope this website helps and I would be so grateful if you guys fix this.

Solution

It will be really rare if it's your PSU. Does the PSU have a fan in it? If yes, disconnect all the wires going out from the PSU and turn on the PSU. See if the fan turns on. If it does, your PSU is fine. Is the computer not turning on at all? (Case fans, display, gpu, etc) Are you sure that the power button connectors are connected to the mobo in the right order?

Oh nooo. Sorry to hear this happened with your first build. Nonetheless let's look into it. First, what kind of CPU do you have? Does it have pins at the bottom or is it smooth with multiple golden circles? Was the spark near the RAM modules on the motherboard or elsewhere on the motherboard? My best guess it that static got caught somewhere and it basically fried either you motherboard or ram. Your CPU should still be fine. You could have avoided this by occasionally touching the inside of your case or using an anti-static strap. If you placed the RAM or the mobo on a carpet or on any kind of fabric, they might have picked static from there as well. Unfortunately there is no way of "fixing" this unless you get a replacement.

Second scenario is that you bent one of the pins of your CPU when you inserted it incorrectly. You can try making it straight but the chances of it ever working again are slim...

It is a Intel Pentium and it has pins at the bottom. It wasn't really static it was like a flash of electricity I guess at the top right and bottom left of the motherboard. I also don't think I bent one of the pins because it inserted perfectly when I corrected it. I am really sad to hear I have to replace my motherboard... ARGH.. Also I don't think the ram got fried probably the motherboard.... well I think it was the cheapest part of my build :D so maybe I can replace it

Consider looking into the return policy of your motherboard if you recently bought it. RAM are usually more sensitive to static than motherboards but if you're sure it's the motherboard then go with it. Wait I just thought of something.... couldn't the power supply be faulty? Thats why it isn't working? (Where is the "solved" thing? Its my first time on this website)

Totally forgot about this. If you have multiple ram modules, remove other modules except one. Switch the slots and try turning it on. I had this issue with my build.
