Hello! Seems like I've been working on this PC build for years now.... oh wait I have lol (this is my first time doing this). One thing comes up, then another, you know how this story goes I'm finally getting back around to it. When I started building it I was going to go with an ASRock mobo, don't remember the exact one but now a year later they're completely sold out everywhere I look so instead I went with the MSI H81m P-33, because of its price. Now I have a few questions, here is the relevant info with my build first though:

Mobo: MSI H81m P-33
CPU: i5 4460
GPU: GTX 1060 (not sure which one yet)
RAM: 8GB (2x 4GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600
Case: Source 210 NZXT (cant remember details right off hand, but its NOT the elite version)

So basically I just want to know if this will all work together? When I plug all this into a build on pcpp there is a warning that pops up that says there is a potential incompatibility between the i5 4460 and the mobo, something about maybe needing a BIOS update before a haswell refresh cpu will work on it? Will I need to update the BIOS, and if so, what is the best way to do so?

Will a 1060 work with that mobo? I don't see why it wouldn't but I figured I'd ask to be safe.

Also, according to reviews this mobo doesn't have any USB 3.0 headers, but for me that's ok, the case I have only has USB 2.0.... I can't seem to locate any info on weather or not there are USB 2.0 headers or not on this board, so are there? I legit have never used front USB for anything but very light data transfer (pictures, and some video), so I don't mind the difference in speed between 2.0 and 3.0.

I have purchased the entire build except for the GPU, CPU, OS, and a planned SSD, so if this mobo is incompatible with my cpu OR gpu I'll just return it and get something else. It's a weird build, I know, I was aiming for inexpensive on everything but the CPU/GPU and I think I did ok, my original goal was 700-800 USD and I hit that pretty perfectly, I just hope it all works when I put it together (once again idk why it wouldn't but this is my first build and I freak out a bit when it comes to details).

All I plan on doing with this machine is web browsing, and some 1920x1080 gaming. If there was some place where I could have found all this out and I made this thread for nothing, I apologize, I am new to this. Also, if you have any questions at all feel free to ask and I'll answer as best I can.

Solution
It will support the cpu yes, according to the specs:
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/H81M-P33.html#hero-specification
it comes with:

USB 3.0 ports (Rear)
2
USB 2.0 ports (Front)
4
USB 2.0 ports (Rear)
4

so you should be good.

The GPU will not be supported out of the box as it came out after the board. One of the later bios updates may have added it but if so I don't see it:
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H81M-P33.html
You might want to contact msi and double check about that first.

Finally if you're assembling a build, I highly recommend pcpartpicker.com
Not only does it take care of some of the compatibility issues, it also give you many price effective alternatives for your components.

Thanks! I didn't even realize they had this mobo on their website, I could have just checked the compatibility there.. good to know. Also good to know the CPU will work, that was my biggest concern. So I googled 'will a gtx 1060 work with msi h81m p33' and a couple of threads came up from this website and people had said that it would work.. also when I go to pcpartpicker and put the mobo and a 1060 together there are no incompatibility issues... but looking at MSIs website you're correct I don't see the 1060 architecture on the list.. so I think for good measure I'll contact them. Thanks for the response so quickly.

Oh it'll work as in you'll install and boot up and you'll see a picture, that'll all be fine. It's just it'll use some generic drivers for compatibility so you might or might not have some issues down the road like freezing or crashing occasionally or some setting in a game just not working and such for which typically a bios that enhances vga compatibility with newer models should be applied. In fact it might be included in their bios updates already, they might have just forgotten to mention it. Or not. Just see what they say.
