Safe to sell PC with gray market key?

Solution

That would cause me to discount my offer price $100. Take it or leave it.

What could go wrong? Next week, when the new owner wants to wipe and reinstall the OS...and the activation fails....he is going to be pissed off.

And for any used OS...the new owner really, really, really needs to do a full wipe and reinstall.
If you're selling the system with the OS as a line item...CPU/Case/GPU/RAM/OS..you need to give the new owner the license key and COA (Certificate of Authority).
If you're not transferring that to me....I consider it not a valid OS. I don't care where you got it from.
Hence $100 that I need to...

I'm talking about keys you buy off of like kinguin.net. Also that made no sense at all

Honestly I feel that is very sad. There should be a lot more talk about it than there is IMO. And Microsoft isn't the only dealer, there are many more.

I'm sure you have. Personally have had no issues with it. Yes you can use Win10 for free as long as you like with very limited drawbacks. However that isn't what i'm asking.

As far as the site you mentioned....we could go into much detail as to why and how that is not valid.

You may ask why the new owner of a used system needs to do a full wipe and reinstall?

Because I don't really trust you. And I really, really, really don't trust your friends, and the person who owned that system before you.
Full nuclear wipe and reinstall of the OS.

I've seen far too many used systems with stuff from the prev owner still in there. Even from a big box store that was supposedly wiped.
Unless *I* do it, it does not count.
And without a valid COA, $100 off my offer price.

Selling a "new" system with a grey market license?
That's an even worse idea.
That's like selling a "new" system with a grey market GPU, you bought from aliexpress for $20.

But yes....either valid OS with all the relevant stuff, or not at all.

Actually it's a LOT less serious than a gpu. Considering that you can get windows for free without pirating or anything. But I get the point

Appreciate the help and i'll keep this all in mind. No more cheap windows on new PCs lol :)
