I'm on a tight budget but I would buy something more expensive if needed... I don't want a Crappy PC to regret later on...

So which is it guys...

The i3-7300 costs around $45 (canadian) dollars more than the G4620. I'm not going to do much gaming. Just alot of compiling and rendering. Heavy 4K Video rendering. which one would be better? Is the i3 worth the extra bucks? Thanks

the best i5 you can buy, apart from k series, your motherboard is not meant to overclock, so don't buy k cpus

the time converting videos depends on the quality of the source and quality and format of the output, you mention 4k, 1080p usually takes 1 minute or less per each minute of video, 4k usually doubles or more that time

so your 4 minutes video could take 20 minutes or more, on a 4 cores should go around half that, so is worth to get

i would go with the g4620

later if not happy i would get a i5

if you are going to edit video or render images, forget both cpus and go for the i5 now, time here is important, 2 cores on those cpus are not enough for video rendering(threads are not really important for rendering), if the rendering also asks for gpu, sometimes things are more even with slower cpus depending on the app used for rendering, but a i5 has more sense for what you mention

For 4k video rendering then it will take extremely long with either CPU, but the i3 has 4 threads which are similar to cores but not as good. If I had to say the i3 would be worth it over the Pentium. The i3-7100 is cheaper than the i3 7300 (US at least) and will deliver similar performance, but with Ryzen 3 soon to launch you should wait for it as the Ryzen 3 1200 will only cost ~$129 US which is ~170 CA and it will have 4 REAL cores.

Alright. Which i5 would you recommend? Money/performance wise? :) by the way... what do u mean it's gonna take a long time? How long will it take to render a 4k 4 minute video?

You should go with an i5 4460 as it's only $230 CA and an lga 1150 motherboard isn't going to be as hard to find as an ivy/sandy bridge i5 board would be

Forgot to mention I already have a LGA1151 Motherboard it's the b250m from GIGABYTE...

Out of the G4620 and i3 7300, the 7300 does perform slightly faster on most applications, but value wise the G4620 is much better. In fact, an even better option is the G4560 which can be found at half the cost of the 7300.

Any worthwhile uplift from the G4560 is straight to the i5/r5 range and above.
