So my specs are
cpu -Fx 8300
psu - 600w smart series 80
gpu - gtx 1050 ti ssc
mobo GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3
ram - 1 stick of 8 gb ram (super bad)

i bought this computer as a ibuypower 3 or 4 years ago when i knew nothing about computers
and it had a fx 4300 gt 730 and 350w psu and now im just getting around to upgrading it and i know intel is better but im a college student on a budget so thats why im sticking with amd
but i want to ugprade my mobo and ram but with my mobo i can only get like ddr3 1600 mhz i think i should upgrade my mobo so i can get higher speeds? my price range is 80 - 110 should i just get ram instead and mobo later or?>

i would also like to overclock my cpu

My personal opinion is to throw another 8gb ddr3 stick in there for the time being. That will still be 16 gigs of ram which is pretty good. Then once you can afford another mobo, start moving to higher speeds if you want.

What makes you think Intel is better?

You always have to be careful when adding memory, because even two sticks of the same model may not be compatible. So be aware that you are taking your chances. It's always best to buy a matching kit.

I've seen lots of used 16 GB (2 x 8) kits out there for $100 CDN ($80 USD).

Unless we're talking about single-thread performance, the FX-8300 kicks the ass of a core i3-7100.

I was challenging the general statement that Intel is better. AMD has thumped Intel in 2017 across the board. I myself am a convert from a Core i7-4790K to a Ryzen 7 1700.
