Then you likely have a bad SATA cable or perhaps a bad controller on the drive.
Disconnect and re-connect the cable and try a different SATA cable if you have one. (Try a different port on the motherboard as suggested by mbilal2.)
Also there are some cases where certain SATA modes will cause issues depending on the drive.
(Try both IDE then AHCI modes to see if the drive appears in the BIOS [after you save and exit])
It's probably your sata cable. There should be two wires connected to your hard drive. Once coming from the power supply to the HDD and the other going from the hdd to the motherboard. Insert the second cable (HDD to mobo) into a different port on the motherboard. Make sure it is firmly inserted on both ends. Go to bios and set it up as the first or second boot device. Make sure there are no USBs connected and there are no CDs in the optical drive.

Also, depending on the board, sometimes occupying certain m.2 modules can disable certain sata ports. As was suggested, try another port (you can check for possibility of this conflict in your motherboard manual).
