Hi all,

Sorry for the long post, but I'd rather include as much info as possible.

Recently I combined the parts of 2 computers somewhat faulty in order to get a working gaming pc for Final Fantasy recent expansion pack to the MMO FFXIV.

Problem is, I'm experiencing a couple issues and am at a loss as to what the problems are, I'm having a lag issue while gaming and also a power problem at boot.

I have performed stress tests with various softwares on the HDD, GPU, CPU, all tests comes clean, so is temperature. The system is entirely stable and fast within windows once it's booted, the network lag is not apparent while browsing and speed tests online give decent speeds, at least decent enough to play. It seems only a problem while gaming. Game runs fine on other systems within the same network. All the parts check as compatible.

1) FIrst problem, which I can live with as it is entirely predictable but still a ghost issue. The pc will turn on to a black display, after a shut down and a reboot, the fans and lights will pulse 3 times, then the computer boots up normally.

I changed a couple parts, namely the PSU (650 watt) and the video card thinking the power could be insufficient, but that was not the case. It always behaves the same way.

2) Lag while gaming. The system behaves like it's affected by network lag while gaming. I have tested another network card, the network is not overloaded and works fine with other computers running the same game and I also tested another video card. The PC worked correctly for 2 days after the initial build, then this problem came along, meaning the system was stable AT FIRST. This is a fresh install of win 7 ultimate x64.

CPU : Intel core 2 duo E8400 (not overclocked atm)
MOBO : Asrock G41M-VS3
RAM : 4 GB of kingston RAM 1333
VIdeo card: zotac GTX260 (also tested radeon R7 250)
PSU: altec lansing 650 watt
HDD: Typical 7200 rpm seagate 1 TB HDD

Thanks for your input.

Lag while gaming in what games? That is a pretty old CPU. Did you check temperatures to make sure it's not overheating?

Never heard of Altec Lansing making a power supply, they make speakers. What is the brand and model of power supply?

You also built the system from "somewhat faulty" computers, what makes you thing using parts that were not good in other computers would be OK when you combine them? You can still have issues with the RAM, CPU, video cards, hard drive, heat issues.

As mentionned it's for final fantasy 14, the temps are fine also.

Unsure about the PSU brand. I tested another PSU in it's place and the problem remained.

Previous machine had a faulty mobo and the second machine I suspect the HDD was giving out so I replaced it. I popped in that ASrock but retained my CPU e8400 and changed the HDD. I have another older 1.8 ghz to test with, but I doubt that's the problem.
