One of the teenagers in my family has an Asus laptop with Windows 10.
Nobody knows what, but something happened to it and now everything is extremely slow. It's possible to boot and log on, but impossible to start any programs.
Anyway, I pulled out the HDD and put it into an external closure with an USB interface.

I first ran an antivirus scan. Two different viruses detected and repaired. Put the drive back into the laptop, logged on to Windows, but it's still extremely slow. And I mean slow as in completely useless!

I took out the drive again and placed it in the external closure again, and attached it to my pc. My plan was to copy all data, but there is nothing.

The drive has 500 Gb capacityt and is divided into two logical disks, one (10 Gb) for OS and applications, and another for data which should contain approx 170 Gb data.
But when i double click the data drive it's empty apart from a single file.

It has been years since I did stuff like this, but it's like the data drive isn't mounted. Or something like that?!

Any suggestions as to how I can find and salvage the data would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance :)

Hi

It is almost impossible to install windows 10 into a 10 gb partition
This maybe a recovery partition which is visible, normally they are hidden

Take a picture with a smart phone or camera of disk management screen relating to the proplem disk
Also note the disks make and model so we can check its specifications

Western digital and seagate provide windows based diagnostic software which can test internal sata, esata or usb hard drives so you can find out if the drive has physical problems (bad sectors etc) or only logical problems which are repairable

Then upload picture to a picture sharing site so you can link it to your post
