I'm buying a new PC.
I'm getting the ASUS X99-A II motherboard and I have a little budget to go with one 8gb slot or even 2x8gb in two slots
or should I go quad channel
I'm confused.
I'm appreciate your help.
Thanks

Solution
Yes. You just lose either 1/2 or 3/4 the memory bandwidth that your CPU can deliver. For maximum performance quad channel matched memory sets are the best.

if you have "a little budget"

drop the x99 setup and go either ryzen or z270

I will upgrade it later to 32Gb. I just want something to start with.
and I want an X99 build because of the heavy work that I will use it for.
Thanks anyway for your help.

"upgrading" is a hit-or-miss situation unless you choose to purchase a matched set of 4 DIMMs. Just adding memory, even if you can find the same memory that you have, may or may not work. May or may not boot.
