Qhd monitors question: Ultrawide 100hz or widescreen 144hz-1ms

Hello everyone, i was looking for a high performance gaming monitor. Looking for the best option, i've found de Asus X34, qhd g-sync ultrawide monitor with 100hz at 4ms and the asus ROG Swift g sync PG278Q, Qhd 144hz at 1ms, My question is: Whats worth it more ? The ultrawide monitor (more field of view) with less frequency e higher response time, or the ROG widescreen with more frequency and less response time.

I'm intended to play more FPS games (overwatch, cs:go, bf1) but when i was looking for gtx 1080ti reviews, i've saw many ultrawide gameplays and i really liked it (the witcher 3, shadow of morder, even the FPS games), the field of view is amazing, but i'm worry about to not get used of it or make the wrong decision for my use.

Notes: Sorry about some gramatical mistakes, i'm from Brazil and i'm rookie writing posts for american fóruns, anyway i aprreciate you atention.

Hi there. Pretty sure you meant the Acer X34 and not the Asus X34.

For gaming I would buy nothing but a 1ms monitor. You want fast response times and 1-3 ms is great. 4ms is not bad either so we'll keep going. 100 Hz vs 144 Hz is not that huge of a difference. Some people claim you can't see better past 60 Hz. I don't believe that and got a 165 Hz monitor. It is waaaay better.

Another main difference between the two is that the Asus has a TN panel and the Acer has an IPS panel. In other words the colors in the Acer are much more vibrant that the Asus. But the chances of having screen bleed in an IPS display are significantly higher.. I for one prefer the TN panel. The colors become equally vibrant once you edit the color settings in the Asus.

Personally I don't like ultra wide monitors but I will try my best to give you an unbiased opinion. Widescreen monitors give you issues when watching most movies as they don't support 21:9 aspect ratio. But the field of view is quite impressive in games like you said. Keep in mind there is a 300$ price difference between the two.

The ASUS is a beautiful screen and is a top of the line 1440p TN monitor.

Here's my verdict: If you're going to use the monitor purely for gaming (and you have a gtx 1070, 1080 or 1080Ti) and video editing, go for the ultra widescreen. It will take some time getting used to but it'll be worth it. But if you use the monitor to watch movies, do school work, etc and don't want to break the bank, get the Asus.

    Hope it helped :)
  2. Thats right, is the Acer x34, i'm sorry, my mistake, the monitors look very similar and it's make me confused. But you got some crucial points that I dont thought before, like the display quality, other uses and most of all: the price, and believe or not, the diference is even bigger here kkkk

Probably i will buy the Asus 144hz or the version with overcloked frequency, i bealive that 165hz on overwatch and cs: go will be reeaaally good, and its like you said, there's no much problems with the usual 16: 9. Personally i really not think that i will get used to 21: 9, even today i used to play cs as the usual 4: 3 just because i like it, and theres a lot of diference between 4: 3 to 21:9
