So I have a new Ryzen system using the R5 1600. It's on an ASUS PRIME B350-PLUS running BIOS version 0609. The latest is 0805 and it will not recognise any new files both in windows and in the BIOS. It simply says "BIOS file not for model". I want to update the BIOS as the GPU which is an ASUS Dual RX 480 8GB keeps crashing whilst doing anything intensive such as a game. The application freezes and then either closes making the screen go black in the process or the programme will stop responding. I guess is that the issue of the GPU and the BIOS not updating are related. Has anyone had this issue with this board and if so how did you fix it?

Solution

Ok i'll walk you through it, first start by downloading your latest bios file from here: https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/PRIME-B350-PLUS/HelpDesk_Download/

select you OS and download the bios, extract it to your desktop, also download BRenamer from the bios utilities section, extract this to the desktop too, now double click the bios renamer app and press any key to continue, you will now see the bios file on your desktop has a new file name, you can delete the renamer app now.

next go back to that link and select other as your OS...

The bios will not update. It just refuses the file.

I had extracted them so the .CAP file was readable.

I've tried from both USB Drive and The hard Drive and I've made certain that it is the correct BIOS. I've also used ASUS's utility that changes the name of the BIOS file to the supposedly correct one.

That is where I got the BIOS from. The PC does run the RAM at 2400MHz at the correct speed fine BTW.

When you have done all of that, plug in your usb stick into an available slot, my usb stick is just labelled as per the picture as I have windows on it, but you can leave it blank, or label it whatever you like, and open Rufus app, set the following settings as per my picture below, just make sure its your USB stick selected at the top, exactly the same settings as the picture, then click start at the bottom:

Next copy the renamed bios file and the updater app to the usb stick, not in any folders, just on the root of the drive.

Now reboot your computer and boot off the USB stick, it will boot to freeDOS, you'll be at a C:\ prompt at that point, what you are going to have to do is CD to your USB stick, that might be D: or A: etc, you can check it out by using the dir command to see what is on each drive.

Next once you have finally cd to the correct drive (your USB stick) run this command: bupdater /g then press enter bios updater screen will open up.

select your bios file and then update, once its done it maybe wont self reboot, you'll have to press esc to exit the app and manually reboot your computer, do not remove the USB stick until you are safely back in the bios or windows.
