Currently I have -
i5 4690k 3.5ghz
GTX 760
8gigs of ram
Z87 plus motherboard

The games Im trying to play at 144fps are
Rainbow Six Siege (avg fps 70-80)
Battlefield 1(40-60)
And a few others. What gpu or other components should I upgrade to achieve that fps.

Solution
Okay well actually, I lied I bit. I do currently have a 16gb kit but because of issues with my motherboard I can only use my pc with 8gbs, and I have a CS550M btw. Second of all, I have a stock heatsink and when it gets hot out I can barely achieve 60 fps on medium graphics in Siege. I built this thing about 2-3 years ago and I've just got too many problems with it right now that I might as well buy a new pc. I'm 15 right now so I have no rent/utility bills to pay, if I manage to get a part time job in the near future I could be making around 400-500$ a month and put that to my pc.

Okay. Good luck.

I would upgrade your GPU to at least a gtx 1070.
I would look used for a used i7 that fits your mobo.
And a 16gb kit of ram.

Or for a lot more money you can upgrade your whole platform (mobo CPU ram GPU) then I would indeed do that.

I think I'll just save up for a new build, something along the lines of this -

Not really a good idea. Those who have already answered are setting you on the right course. Would I invest an extra 2 or 4 HUNDRED for a 10% CPU boost? No. If I were in your shoes... Wait just a soggy pickle planck here. I am in your shoes. Sorta. I have a 4690K with a 970 and that is not getting that sort of FPS in the highest end titles I have. I don't have BF1. 90-120FPS? MAYBE. If I turn down some settings. 144? No. THe 970 isn't all that strong and the boost to the 1060 6GB isn't really a solid 144Hz Ultra card on every title out there. And that is only looking at today. When I upgrade I am looking beyond what I see. Not just to meet what I want now but something that will last me 3 years or more. My next card? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XPGTD4R. I was set on the 1080Ti but I am designing(too dramatic but still) a covered VR outdoor play area. Odd? Maybe. Fun? Yes! With a tiny budget of only $2000 I just can't afford the Ti.

But anyways. Sorry for that. The 1080 is really your best bet and value. Think about it for a second. RAM? $120. Motherboard? $125?.

Okay, stop the presses. $2222? ONLY buy the 1080. If you want to spend that kind of money invest in a 1080 Ti and a better PSU(you didn't tell us what you have now) and buy a 16GB KIT to replace your 8GB kit. Save it for troubleshooting or whatever. Same amount I have. I will only be buying a 1080 and 16GB RAM. Not telling you anything. Just strongly suggesting so I can possibly save you a lot of money.
