Got a new laptop, what can i run @ 35+fps (low graphics is fine)

also,
for SLOWER games you can lock to 30FPS (guess I'm no console gamer because I really dislike 30FPS), whilst still using VSYNC (to prevent screen tearing).

Why?
Basically if you can't maintain 60FPS but the screen tearing is bad so you don't want VSYNC to be OFF. Please note you should NOT use VSYNC ON if you can't maintain 60FPS or you'll get added STUTTERING.

So..

Adaptive VSYNC (half refresh)
NCP-> manage 3d settings-> program settings-> add game-> (settings)-> SAVE

If using FRAPS or Steam FPS counter it should show 30FPS (no screen tear) or below 30FPS with screen tear since VSYNC gets turned off automatically. (again, a trade-off. less added VSYNC lag and stutter at the expense of screen tearing).

TWEAK?
Tweak all settings like normal to say 90% time spent at 30FPS and 10% below. If screen tear is too frequent drop some settings like 4xMSAA to 2xMSAA.

2D and 2.5D games, like Diablo 3, Starcraft 2 etc tend to do better.

More RETRO versions of those like Super Meatboy, Stardew Valley, Shovel Knight etc should be relatively non-taxing.

OLDER games that are still fun like Half-Life 2 (plus chapter 1 and 2).

Probably not any 3D game similar to Batman Arkham series, Crysis 3 etc. (though Crysis 2 may be a possibility).

*Also, try to Youtube "gamename 940MX" and see if you get anything useful. I just tried C2 and got:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHjVglZVjMI

Unfortunately he didn't specify if Crysis 2 is on lowest settings but I'd guess it's not. Plus, I saw a 920M system playing it at 25FPS or so (720p, unknown settings).

**I add this C2 info because sometimes you have to be like a detective as the answers may not be easy to come by.

A games list that MAY work:
1. Age of Empires III
2. Amnesia, Amnesia AMFP
3. Angry Birds series
4. Baldur's Gate I, II and Icewind Dale (Enhanced Editions... not everybody likes this style)

5. Bayonetta
6. Bioshock Remastered
7. BRAID (puzzle game.. fun)
8. Burnout Paradise (older game, still fun. don't use AO/Ambient Occlusion.. SAVE GAME and exit oddly confusing to find)

9. The Cave (more taxing than appears. not sure)
10. Command and Conquer 3 (and Red Alert 3) series. - CnC 3 still a great game.
11. Dark Souls series ? (plus DSfix for DS1)
12. Deponia series (and any 2D point-click)

13. Deus Ex (with REVISION mod Steam can install)
14. Devil May Cry 4 and the "Special Edition" (not sure about the newer DMC)
15. Dirt 2 and 3?
16. Dishonored 1 (seems to scale well)

17. Divinity Original Sin (not sure)
18. DOOM (not sure... I'd say probably)
19. Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen (older game. may work fine)
20. Skyrim and Skyrim SE (not sure... though not at 60FPS... maybe Skyrim SE at 30FPS via Adaptive VSYNC half refresh? And mods that don't tax graphics more.)
21. FEAR (older game)
22. Fable Anniversary (I thought it was good at least)
23. Fallout New Vegas (hard to say... you need to apply ifpsclamp=60 to avoid massive stutter issues and NOT dip below that. Still, I loved that game. Favorite game of all time, unlike F4 which sucks ass.)
24. Fallout Shelter (free)

25. Far Cry #1
26. FEZ
27. Half-Life 1, 2, HL2 chp1,2
28. Fighting Games (possibly not Injustice Gods Among Us and avoid DOA on PC)... I am HORRIBLE at these games though no matter how hard I try I can't get many of the moves.
29. Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning (should run great.. fun for combat even if you never finish the game)
30. L4D, L4D2 (game runs so FAST. enemies FAST... not how I remember so WTF?)

31. LEGO games (some are demanding though like Harry Potter 5-7). Lego Batman the Video Game should run okay.
32. DREAMFALL (The Longest Journey). - great game I thought, but avoid Dreamfall Chapters. Ugh.

33. Machinarium (just go the resolution fix on Steam so good now)
34. Mad Max (probably not, but possibly... also rumor of Vulkan update coming?... it's almost maxed out on GTX1050Ti at 1080p/60FPS so maybe at low/medium?)
35. Mark of the Ninja (2D)
36. Mass Effect 1 to 3 ?? (M1 needs a mod, 4GB fix... see pcgamingwiki site)

37. Metal Gear Rising
38. Shadow of Mordor ?
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/shadow-of-mordor-performance,3996-3.html
39. Myst V (older game)
40. Neverwinter Nights 2 (older game)

41. Ori in the Blind Forest
42. Path of Exile (free MMO)
43. Portal 1, 2
44. Psychonauts (is an XBOX controller HUD patch)

45. Resident Evil 5
46. Stalker series ?
47. Sam and Max (not sure if they fixed all the games now on Steam but I think they did)
48. Serious Sam HD

49. Shadowrun Dragonfall Director's Cut
50. Shovel Knight
51. South Park The Stick of Truth (TYK or "The Young Kids" edition)
52. Star Wars KOTOR 2 (it was redone to fix resolution etc. okay game, not great now but just okay)

53. System Shock 2
54. Tales of Monkey Island 1 to 5 (I think there's an older but updated version that looks crappy). this is 3D and looks pretty good still.
55. The Talos Principle (use DX11)
56. Titan Quest Anniversary Edition (long and repetitive though)

57. Tomb Raider Anniversary, Legend, Underworld (not newer, not older)
58. Torchlight 1,2
59. Valkyria Chronicles
60. Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines (with v9.6 of community update patch)

61. The Walking Dead series ?
62. Witcher series ? (not sure how well W3 scales down, but I wouldn't bother with the first two games)

63. The Wolf Among Us
64. XCOM Enemy Unknown
65. XCOM 2 (too demanding maybe even at lower at 900p or 1080p, 30FPS?)

hmm... Your suggestions are pretty low-taxing games... I can play H1Z1 King of the kill at 40-55 fps on low setting full resolution. Far Cry 1 :( are you sure? or did you make a mistake? But thanks a LOT for your effort and suggestions
