I upgraded my connection to 150mbit. However, I'm still locked to 100mbit for some reason. ??

When I plug directly into the back of CPU, I'm getting 150mbit. But when I connect it to my router, I'm getting only 100mbit.

As you can notice the speed. 1gbps vs. 100mbps on router.

I tried manually setting up Speed & Duplex to 1.0 Gbps full duplex but it didn't work. It doesn't connect or even recognise.

Cable is CAT 5E. Do I need to change the cable to better one? CAT 6? Or change router itself? I recently only changed it. So really don't want to.

How do I get max connectivity on my router? It already supports up to 750mbps but getting only 100mbit, I don't understand. ??

Thanks!

Solution

Right. For a wired connection, you'll need to upgrade to a router with gigabit ports.

You'll also want to be sure the network adapter on your PC is gigabit as well.

For anything greater than 100Mb/s, your modem, router and devices must be gigabit capable. Have you checked the specifications for your equipment?

Edit: my router box says:

10/100 Fast Ethernet WAN port for speedy Internet access
Four 10/100 Fast Ethernet LAN ports give you high-speed wired connectivity

Does this mean I cannot use more than 100mbps connection on it?
