Hello guys,

I just have a quick question regarding the buy of a new graphics card. First some information what I already own and what I do, so that you can judge better if the above mentioned graphic card is a relevant buy for me:

The PC in question is a bit old and I have not used it for a while, but due to a move into a new apartment I thought it would be nice to have a Desktop PC again besides my laptop.

AMD Athlon II X3, with one of the cores unlocked, so that gives me 4 cores. I believe (if I remember correctly) I have 16 GB of RAM (or 8). Unfortunately I can't remember the Motherboard Specifications, but I could boot the PC up if this information would help you.

Now, I am an architecture student and have been working mainly from my i5 Laptop with a GeForce 840M and 8GB of RAM, which was not that bad, but mainly in big and heavy projects I experienced some lag and freezing for a short while, which wasn't always very pleasing. Now I thought I could upgrade my Desktop which has (or had, since he's quiet old, bought him 3-5 years ago) a fairly good CPU compared to my Dual Core i5.

The problem is I have no graphics card and was thinking about buying a new one. The Sapphire Radeon RX 580 seemed like a fairly good choice (but not cheap). But I thought maybe it would help me in my bigger projects, so I can work from the desktop. I found the two below:

My question is if you guys even think it is worth to buy such an expensive graphic card if the Desktop components themselves are about 3-5 years old.

I would appreciate every though you throw in!

Thanks a lot.

Kind regards,
Richard

Solution
Absolutely not .
For one your system won't make proper use of one.
Secondly , those price are inflated from the €250-260 rrp because of the new etherium cryptocoin mining craze.

Its not really worth buying any GPU at the minute because of this

The 1050ti would suit & is at least not massively overpriced at the minute..
