i am thinking bout getting a i7 4790k it has the same performance as the i5 7600k but is a bit better, i was wondering should i go for the older cpu or the newer which would be better for the long run, i am planning to have the system for the next 5 years or more. im doing it for gaming and possibly in the future minor video rendering.

You will probably only be able to upgrade to 7700K max. So we're talking about upgrading from a 7600K to a 7700K here which will cost an extra $300 on top of the 7600K. Why do that when you could have the 4790K from the start? The 4790K is only 10% slower than the 7700K and it will cost you a lot less to just go with the 4790K. Is the extra money it would cost to upgrade to the 7700K worth the 10% performance you would gain? If you would have to sell your 7600K to upgrade to the 7700K would it be worth the hassle for a 10% performance boost vs the 4790K? I think not.
