I want to repurpose some old laptops and build some Raspberry pi3 projects. Each project may require better performance while others less. The goal being to create a lab for testing, and learning as well as dedicated units for specific tasks, including some fun stuff.

So I thought I would take an old Pentium III processor 866MHz-M2, a Intel Core Duo Processor T2400 1.83GHz, as well as a Raspberry pi 3 and load up some Linux and start banging away. It's obvious the Core Duo will out perform the Pentium III. But less obvious is the Raspberry pi 3 against the two. Since I will be testing I will obviously be unfamiliar with the loads of some projects. One will probably be some time of file sharing server running a nas or cloud project, another will be an asterisk server, and probably the remaining will be a video surveillance server.

Obviously I could setup some EC2 instances or build a really screaming server and run VMs but I hate the fact that these computers are just sitting around and money's tight right now so experimenting using a paid service is risky while trying to improve my Linux chops.

Does Tom's have an area to compare cpu's across the board? For example if I want to compare a Raspberry pi3 to a Pentium III processor 866MHz-M2 or against the Intel Core Duo Processor T2400 1.83GHz?

What about comparisons of typical loads for telephony, video serving, cloud services?
