Windows 7 pc not receiving internet on home network. Works fine with iphone hotspot. works for 15 seconds then says no internet access. When troubleshooter is ran it says a cable may be broken but the network works perfectly on other devices

Did you try another cable? Or are you saying that this same cable works OK on another computer? Try another port in the switch or router? Is the network card installed properly with no errors showing in device manager? Has this worked before with no issues? If it did, did anything change or get installed/uninstalled before the issue started?

Yes the cable is perfect the modem is providing internet to several other devices with no problems. The computer will connect to the internet through this modem for about 30 seconds after which it will stay connected to the modem but say "no internet access" when i troubleshoot it says a cable is broken on the modem which is untrue. the computer will connect to my iphone hotspot with no issues. yes, i recently wiped both drives and reinstalled windows.

You have a modem or a router? How can a single cable provide internet access to other devices, it's one cable. Maybe you are not describing the connection you have setup properly. How many devices you have that are using ethernet cables? Do they all work on that cable without issues? Is your modem a modem/router combo with multiple network ports or just a single port? Or is the modem connected to a router which is then used by your computer?

Did you install all drivers for the computer from the vendor after you installed Windows again? Do you have link lights on the network card when the cable is connected? Try another port on the modem/router?

Thanks for the speedy reply, sorry I have no described this properly. i have a modem to which every other device in the house is connected to wireless. My problem is my computer (homebuilt) is connecting to the modem but is indicating the connection between the modem and the internet is broken (a broken cable it says) but we know this is not true as it is working perfectly with all other devices. i had issues sourcing the drivers so i downloaded a program which installed the correct driver for the ethernet card onto my laptop and then transferred it to my computer. i have tried connecting the ethernet cable directly into the motherboard but nothing happens.

Wireless working and the ethernet working are separate things. Just because the are in the same device does not mean both are working if one is, and it may be an issue with the cable, port, or the computer. Is the modem just a modem with a single ethernet port? Or a gateway where several? Did you try another cable? Did you try another computer on that ethernet connection? When you say "nothing happens", is there a link light on the network jack on the computer? Check device manager to make sure the network card is there and showing up properly. You now are saying you used some utility because you had issues with the network drivers, you could not find the drivers on the motherboard support site? You may not even be using the right driver.

Solved by typing "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" into command prompt
But after an hour it goes the same way again "no internet access"

UPDATE: Lasted 30 minutes and went back to saying "no internet access".
Tried assigning Ip address and DNS server address, sometimes works for a few minutes but sometimes doesn't
Any help appreciated
