Best setup for gaming

My goal is to have the best online gaming experience possible. So my question is, how do I know I've done everything possible?

I can't seem to find a "meter" or "test" that basically tells me I'm better in any situation.

I started with a basic 4 in 1 modem/router/switch/wifi, then did the "port forward" thing. Still not satisfied, then now I'm fully invested in a Edgerouter and using their QOS. My results don't seem to justify the expense/time. Based on "seat of the pants" testing...by playing online with my PS43...I don't see the results.

So, is there an "objective" test to see the results? So far all I can get for "results" are that my "bufferbloat" is better. However, the "results" of playing online don't seem to support those results.

Please help....I'm extremely frustrated...

thanks in advance,

David

I am no expert in networking unfortunately.

Is it just one game that is giving you issues (like Rust, Ark, BF1) or are you experiencing issues with all of them?

Wait for a networking expert to come along before you make decisions like changing router/modem,etc (spend money) again.

Have you contacted your ISP regarding this? Run a few speedtests (though I find them inaccurate) using speedtest.net by Ookla and share the results. It might be that you have to upgrade your internet plan from the ISP.

Even if the ISP makes changes, how would I validate the changes? I don't think speed is the issue. As I understand, for online gaming, it's not about bandwidth and speed, it's all about latency (ping?).
