So i am thinking of building a gaming pc and I was wondering if it is worth the extra money to get a 7600k over a 7600. My main uses will be beaming.drive a physics game which I believe is very CPU intensive, project cars/rfactor 2, cs:go, rainbow 6 siege And Gta 5. Pc specs not including CPU are: hyper 212x CPU cooler, msi b250m mortar, crucial balistix sport 4x4GB 2400mhz, intel 600p 128GB m.2, wd blue 1tb, zotac amp extreme 1070 8GB, silverstone strider plus 600w 80+ bronze fully modular psu. I realise that I will need to get a better cooler and a z270 to make use of the 7600k so I would like to know If the 7600k is worth the extra price.

Solution
If you are going to buy the i5 7600k (which I recommend as it is only 15$ more and gives about 300 Mhz more +OC and costs just 15$ more) I suggest you get a z270 mobo instead of the B250m. An evo 212 is a good cooler for the price but I recommend the CRYORIG - H7 if you have a flexible budget though I own a 212 and it works great with my 7600k OC'd.

UPDATE: i5 - 7600 comes with a stock cooler.

Ok thank you for your answer, so you believe that it would be worth the extra price of the mobo , the cooler and the CPU about $85 extra? And is the msi z270m mortar a good board to go with?

If you have a case with good cooling, stick with the EVO 212. That will save you like ~30$. Then yes it is definitely worth it.

The z270m mortar is a great entry level z270 mobo (98$ on newegg - currently out of stock). NOTE: This is a microATX mobo. It will fit in most ATX cases.

I'm looking at getting a phanteks eclipse p400s case and would I be able to get a better overclock with the H7? because if that true I can spend the extra to get the H7

That looks like a cool case but is a bit over priced. You can probably get a cheaper one with more fan slots.

It supports a maximum fan height of 160mm and the evo 212 is 120mm tall. So you are good there. I recommend the H7 to i7 7700K over clockers not to i5-7600k users. My evo 212 keeps my 7600k at ~80C max under load and stress tests when I overclock it to 4.8 Ghz. I would say an evo 212 is enough and you can save some bucks there. You can still go for the H7 if you want lower temperatures.

NOTE: There is an evo 212 with bright red LEDs and another with no LEDs. You cannot turn them off. So get the one you prefer.

What's weird is that people seem to think the 7600 and the 7600K are clocked the same...; they are not, as the 7600K's base clock is 300 MHz faster at 3.8 GHz, well worth the extra $10-$15 over the non-k variant.. THose that say 'just get the 7600 if not OCing' seem to forget that....frequently.

However.....given the release of Ryzen. I'd shoot hard for the 1600 or 1600X for the same amount of money or less..., or, fork over the extra $100 for the 7700K

IKR haha. Anywayz I second the Ryzens as well. Though the 1500X will be in the same price range and 1600/1600X ~40$ higher. If you are going with Ryzens I also recommend getting a faster ram ~3000/3200. Ryzens absolutely love utilizing faster RAMs.

Thanks for the help, I'm from Australia and the 7600k is $35AUD or $27 USD more than the 7600 so I don't see much point just buying the 7600k and not overclocking. At this point I would like to stick with intel over amd

So I should I consider buying extra case fans? In Australia that case is not much more expensive than the other cases on the market, everything is overpriced here :(

You can add one extra fan other than the two that comes in your case. I believe your case has one at the back and one at the front. You won't really see much difference if you add a third or fourth fan but there are slots for two 120mm/140mm fans up top. Personally I wouldn't buy more fans. If you see your processor running at 80+C, then I would consider buying more fans.

:)
