I have a Sager N7850 with win 10 pro and a GTX 1060 with 6gb of video ram. Whenever I use the HDMI output on Windows to my 4k Vizio UHD TV with HDR, the signal goes on and off for about 3 seconds at a time. The curious thing, is that this doesn't happen when running Linux on the machine. Even more odd is that the rate of the cutting in and out increases the higher the resolution. For example, at 1080p, it'll happen maybe once every 15 minutes, but at 4k, it's closer to every 5 minutes. The laptop screen remains on. I've also tried only having it display on the TV and not the laptop to no avail. I have the latest drivers and even tried a fresh install. I've tried multiple cables all producing the same results, but again, only with Windows, not on Linux. I have the Intel 630 on board graphics as well along with the i7 7700HQ CPU. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried to clean install the drivers?

Yes, I've tried a clean install of drivers, including a clean windows install. Neither has helped the issue.

An update to the issue. Last night, I attempted changing the deep color depth from 12bpc to 10bpc and even 8 with 4:2:0 and limited dynamic range and HDR turned on. This resulted in no change to the issue. I also checked the temperature of the GPU and CPU throughout this, and running DOOM at 4k with settings maxed, CPU peaked at about 62C and GPU peaked at 72C, without running a game, just screen on, both were around 54C. So it's not a temperature issue either. I'm going to try a display port to HDMI adapter tonight to see if it fixes the issue. otherwise, looks like it'll get RMA'd

I realized now that the HDMI is the problem -_- sorry lol.

This sounds like a Handshake issue. Try turning your TV off, then connecting the HDMI on both, THEN turning it on. Try the device also on another TV and see what happens (different HDMI cables won't solve handshake issues). Preferably, make sure that the TV is 1080p instead of 4K. If you don't have a 1080p see if a friend or relative will let you try it on theirs. If the issue persists, then definitely RMA it. If it doesn't persist, then this may just be a compatibility issue between your TV and the Sager. Usually, 4K TVs have high support, so check and see if there are new firmwares for the TV and install it. Let me know how it goes.

So, it actually turns out that 3 of the 4 HDMI 2 cables I just bought were bad. Oh well, at least it's solved now.

Thats great! Better than having to wait weeks to maybe even a month on an RMA! Congratulations!
