is upgrading from amd fx 6300 to 8300/8350 required in 2017?

i have been recently thinking about the launch of ryzen and heard that the computing market is shifting from quad cores to hexa cores or octacores as mainstream processors.is it true? i have a 1year old fx 6300 processor with a high quality motherboard (asus pro 970 gaming aura) .

regarding the upcoming games like assassin's creed origins and vampyr, and the introduction of unreal engine 4 and dx12 and vulkan etc, most of the applications are benefitting from higher number of cores. also, watch dogs 2 performs better with higher core processors.

Thus, i am very confused whether i should upgrade to fx 8300 or 8350 if i get a good deal, or i should later overclock my fx 6300 processor to 4 ghz. i want to use the pc as long as possible and i also can't change my motherboard.also, i have a deepcool gammax s40 cooler and if a new cooler is required for the upgrade i don't know. Any, help or suggesstion is very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If you opt to upgrade processor only. only 8350 would make any sense. But..... most of multithreaded games don't use with more than 4 cores anyway while also like higher frequencies so if you get a good aftermarket cooler (which you can and should use with 8350 too), you could easily OC 6300 to 4.5GHz and get maybe even better gaming performance than stock 8350 while saving some money.

so, an fx 8300 will not be much of an improvement then ? also, what about the wraith cooler with fx 8350 and my current cooler deepcool gammax s40, is it any good, if not then can you recommend me some good cooler with fx 8350.any budget air or liquid cooler will do and i have cooler master force 500 cabinet.

also, can i overclock the fx 6300 to 4.5 ghz without touching the voltage( or setting the cpu voltage to auto) in my motherboard bios. i have an asus 970 gaming pro aura.if i am overclocking my processor then, can i keep my current cooler?

That Gamax cooler should be enough for 4.5GHz on 6300. Now. weather you can hit 4.5GHz on stock voltage is matter for lady luck and silicone lottery but about 1.4v for instance is not gonna break anything with proper cooling. There's no reason to fear any voltage under 1.5v. as long as it's cooled properly.

I think going to anything beyond the 6300 series is pointless right now unless you can't afford anything else. As CountMike said, OC the 6300. I ran a 6350 at 4.30 ish on an ASUS Sabertooth's auto feature for over three years. Giving it more RAM and an SSD extended it's life and overall performance. In most of the games I play, I really didn't need to upgrade to a 1600x and full system.

I would suggest trying to OC for a few weeks/months and see where it goes. If you're not happy and have the money to invest, look at an R5 or R7 system. Don't put more money into an AM3+ system unless you have no other choice.... short of adding an SSD, if you don't have one already.

Depends on your motherboard settings. My Sabertooth had an auto-overclock setting which ran mine from 4.23 to 4.30. If you can use an auto setting, you might be more comfortable to start with and see how stable it is and what performance gains you get. Run 3DMark11 before you change the setting and then after. Then if you want, manually set the OC to 4.30. Again, depending on your board, you may or may not need to increase voltage. Likely you will need to manually bump it a little, but I doubt much beyond 1.40, if at all.
