Minimum CPU needed for GTX 1060 GPU?

I have been searching around for a graphics card and I've decided on the GeForce GTX 1060. However I know that certain sub-par CPUs can bottleneck your performance. Especially my AMD A10 7800. I'm just wondering if there's a CPU that can fit my FM2 socket that won't bottleneck or if I need to buy a whole new motherboard with a new CPU. Let me know what CPU and/or motherboard I need as I know literally nothing about motherboards. Thanks. :)

Solution
DDR3 is not used anymore, by any new motherboards and CPUs. Also, both Ryzen 1400 and 1600 come with very adequate coolers, so no need to buy one.

This essentially is a new computer. If you buy one prebuilt, it's going to cost a whole lot more for the same parts. It's nearly always a lot cheaper to assemble yourself.

What motherboard do you have? Some FM2 compatible AMD processors will not work in your motherboard without a BIOS update.

Exact model of your GTX 1060 will help too (if you have a particular one in mind)

It's not a matter of what CPU bottlenecks a 1060 - the CPU requirements of a game to hit a certain framerate are the same, regardless of what GPU you have. If you can only hit 40fps in a game with your CPU, that will be your cap with a GTX 1080 Ti or even with integrated graphics. Better to think of it like this: How much CPU do you need to get the framerates you want, in the particular games you play?

That said, there are no real upgrades for you on socket FM2+. Most would say an i5 or Ryzen 1400 would be adequate for hitting 60fps in nearly all games, but a locked i5 is starting to be "just enough" in some of the heaviest games.

Say for a new upcoming game like Destiny 2, should I make the switch to intel i5? I just want to run that game at 60 fps at the very least. If so can you link me the upgrades I'll need? thanks a ton

The game isn't out yet and I was unable to find any good benchmarks even for the first one. I don't really know how CPU-heavy it will be.

However, something like this would be a safe bet:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1400 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($157.49 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI - B350M PRO-VDH Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($74.49 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: GeIL - EVO POTENZA 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($104.99 @ Newegg)

You might be fine with just 8GB of RAM and if you aren't interested in overclocking, you can get a cheaper A320 motherboard. On the other hand, the Ryzen 1600 is significantly more powerful and not all that much more expensive. Most games probably won't use the extra cores any time soon though.

If you intend on playing new games I highly recommend a switch to i5/ryzen. But for that you will need to buy processor+motherboard+DDR4 ram. You are looking at 250-400$ worth of upgrades.

Here's a future-proof budget i5 build with overclocking capabilities:

Motherboard: MSI - Z270-A PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($109.89 @ OutletPC)

Is there a reason that I need to upgrade from my DDR3 RAM to DDR4? Also I looked at the motherboard you sent me and my current CPU fan is too small, which CPU cooler do you suggest? And I added up all the costs and whatnot and it comes out to around $680 for the upgrades. I guess I'm just wondering if I can just buy a whole new computer that will accomplish the same feats for no more than $700. If you know of one that'd be great. Thank you for helping me btw.
